Like many small businesses, Mountain Software began as a hobby. After the birth of our daughter, I proudly assumed the role of "Mr. Mom" and quickly realized the difficulties faced by those in the domestic work force. One of the first challenges I encountered was finding something to make for dinner. Having grown tired of flipping through cookbooks and boxes of recipes cards, I wrote a simple program for managing recipes and sold my first "Recipe Box" software for the Atari ST computer in 1992.

That basic idea grew quickly, and I officially founded Mountain Software Jan 5, 1993. Despite limited distribution on floppy disks through mail order catalogs and user groups, I soon added products for the Commodore Amiga and Apple Macintosh before moving to Windows development in 1996.

Much has changed in 18 years, from new technologies like the internet, to our daughter going off to college. I've had many successes and more than my share of failures, but through it all I have been humbled by the support of users and come to know many great people. I am happy to announce a new update to our Milestones Calendar Software!

Milestones helps you organize your appointments, birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and health records into one easy to use calendar program. You can quickly plan your vacations, manage your weight, track and predict menstrual cycles, and keep records for your cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose readings. Best of all, your calendar can be displayed right on your desktop wallpaper for easy access.

This release adds several new features, enhances many basic operations, and fixes all known problems:

• Improved Interface - Navigating forward and backward through the calendar is easier than ever.
• Better Management of Repeating Events - Single occurrences of a repeating event can now be edited or deleted without affecting the rest of the group. You can move a single occurrence if a meeting gets rescheduled, or copy repeating events to additional days if new appointments are added to a regular schedule. Of course, you can still modify all occurrences in a single operation if you need to.
• New Repeat Methods - Additional repeat methods have been added to better support holidays like Administrative Professionals Day (Secretary's Day - The Wednesday of the last full week of April). A new holiday option lets you define holidays that affect other events, like pay days.
• Improved Start and End Times - Events can now be scheduled to five minute intervals instead of the closest 15 minutes.
• User Defined Categories - More color coded categories have been added, and you can modify the descriptions as needed for easier reference.
• Improved Wallpaper Management - Milestones now monitors your desktop wallpaper automatically and can draw your calendar on the desktop whether you use a full screen photo, a tiled image, or a solid color background. If you change your wallpaper image, Milestones will redraw the calendar automatically. In addition, you can now select a variety of transparency options to ensure the calendar works best with your wallpaper image.
• Resizable Window - The Milestones window can now be resized and positioned where it is most convenient for you.
• Improved Access - Milestones runs in the background so it can keep your desktop calendar updated. While you can still open Milestones from the icon in the taskbar tray, you can also double-click the desktop shortcut if Windows hides the taskbar icon.
• Weight Management - Use the new weight records to enter your weight, height, and other body measurements. You can track your progress over time, and a weight manager lets you chart the readings for any record.
• Menstrual Cycles - Ladies can record the start of each menstrual cycle and Milestones will automatically calculate your periods for the coming year.
• Blood Pressure - Blood Pressure events let you track your readings over time, and you can use the manager to chart each reading.
• Cholesterol and Glucose - Use these event types to track your readings over time, or to chart individual readings.
• Better Printing - Calendar printouts have been enhanced, and now show the print date. If you print your calendar often, this will let you determine easily which printout is most up to date.
• Improved Event Management - It is now easier to find and select events when you need them. For example, you might print out a list of appointments to arrange your schedule with others, or print a list of your blood pressure readings to show your doctor. You can also filter events by category, or for a specific record type.
• Metric Support - Selectable options let you display weights in pounds or kg, and measurements in inches or cm.

Most features from our Life Watch Health Manager have now been added to the Milestones Calendar Software. This allows better integration of your doctor and dental appointments, health records, and other events with your regular calendar schedule. With the merging of these two products, I am discontinuing Life Watch as a separate product.
